One thing that many customers often feel put off about investing in at home gym equipment is the price. It is often more cost effective to pay the monthly premium for the use of a local gym than pay out the exceedingly high prices of exercise machines. Especially if you are not going to use them every day and really don’t have the space to spare.
However, what if the space was less of a problem and there was an exercise machine you could get that was affordable? Would that change your mind? It could be that you’d rather work out at home anyway, so you don’t need to go to the gym and do it in front of other people. With the Bowflex Max Trainer M3, this is possible.
The very first Max Trainer model, the M3 is where it all started with one of Bowflex’s most successful and popular line of at home exercise machines. Although the standard design and features it comes with have been improved upon with newer models, this is still a great place to start if you are not interested in paying the world for a high quality tool for exercising with from the comfort of your own home.
The features it does benefit from are still designed and devised by the master craftsmen and engineers at Bowflex. Therefore, they may not be as comprehensive, but are still very effective and will provide you with excellent results. In our review we are going to focus in one some of these to show why you should give it some serious consideration.
Burn Rate and Target Zone Indicators
One of the main features you will find on the majority of Bowflex machines is the ingenious and insightful burn rate indicator. This helps you to see exactly how many calories you are burning off with each session you perform, which is often a far more interesting metric than the usual that is provided.
Thanks to the Target Zone indicator, you can always tell how far away or close to achieving specific goals you have set yourself.
Resistance Levels and Workout Programs
Now, it is fair to say that as this is a more basic option, that the adjustable settings are not as generous or comprehensive as others out there. For instance, you only get 8 levels of resistance to choose from. However, unless you really need 16 or 22 levels of resistance, the 8 this comes with may be enough.
The same could be said for its workout programs. If you are likely to get bored quickly from using the same small selection of settings again and again, this might not be for you. You only get 2 different workout programs you can follow. Manual and Max Interval. If, you know you are not going to use it regularly, it will be more than enough.
Despite its low price, like most of the other Max Trainer machines, the M3 has a very compact design. This means that even if you have a small home or office, you will still be able to set this equipment up without it obstructing your movement much at all.
As there are no other main features to discuss, we thought it was worth discussing some of the nice touches and extras the M3 offers. For example, there is a heart-rate monitor to keep a track on how your body reacts to your workouts, a water bottle holder to ensure you are always hydrated and a shelf to place your smartphone or tablet so you can use it and view it while working out.
- Adjustable resistance
- Burn Rate and Target Zone Indicator

However, if you are not looking to spend a lot, want a high quality and compact machine that you can just work out on, without hassle, when you want to, this might be just what you are looking for. Simple to use and with a stylish design, this is a great investment for those once-a-week sessions.
