When it stands, it makes a very powerful impression due to its front-wheel drive. In any case, it can be compared to an elliptical trainer for the gym.
All in all, it appears very stable and has a high-quality finish. All parts fit together very well and make a visual and high-quality impression.
It is safe to say that the Elyx 1 makes a high-quality and well thought-out first impression.
Furthermore, it is an LCD display with blue background lighting. Not many elliptical trainers have a backlight. This means that you can train on it even when it gets dark or starts to dawn.
The display shows the following values:
- cadence
- Speed
- Pulse
- Distance
- set load level (1 – 15)
- Training time and energy consumption (K Joule/ Kcal)
These are played back simultaneously. This way you are always up to date and can adjust your training accordingly if you are not satisfied with the displayed values. Additionally, they serve as motivation.
When the training is over, the distance, energy consumption (K Joule/ Kcal) and training time are summarized again. The nice thing is that the elliptical trainer automatically goes into standby mode after about 4 minutes. Of course, this also saves electricity in the long run.
There are 6 training programs in total. There should definitely be something suitable for beginners and advanced users. Furthermore, training goals can also be entered. For example, you can enter the distance, time and calorie consumption.
There are also pulse-controlled training programs (HRC1 “Count up” and HRC2 “Count down”). With these you can enter a target heart rate that should be reached. This is a very useful additional function, especially if you want to maintain a certain pulse rate for health reasons.
If you want, you can also take a recovery pulse right at the beginning. This lasts just 60 seconds and at the end you will be shown a fitness grade according to the school grading system.
For the pulse measurement there are either the hand pulse sensors on the handles or an included ear clip. This usually provides even more accurate results than the hand pulse function. Alternatively, you can also connect your own heart rate monitor to the elliptical trainer at home.
Furthermore, the Kettler Elyx 1 has a magnetic resistance system. The different resistances can be regulated by this. The resistance is quite strong and you can choose between 1 and 16.
The elliptical trainer’s flywheel weight is 40 pounds (18 kg). Therefore, the whole workout is very comfortable and balanced.
During the training itself, the elliptical trainer appears very quiet and balanced. This is partly due to the 18 kg flywheel weight and partly to the design of the elliptical trainer and its motion sequence. Also, the distance between the treads of 2.5 inches (6,5 cm) is not least decisive for the pleasant training feeling. Therefore, experienced athletes can train on it for several hours without any problems.
Fortunately, the Kettler Elyx 1 comes with a clear assembly instruction. The manual is also printed in several languages like German, English, French and Dutch (and even more languages). There should be something for everyone.
You should call in a second person to help you set it up. This person is necessary to connect the cables of the training computer. With a second person it is much easier and faster. All in all you need about 1,5 to 2 hours for the assembly if you take your time!
Thankfully, Kettler has a 1 month workout plan on the users manual. You can take a look below or check the complete user manual that we have shared earlier on this review.
All in all, the Kettler Elyx 1 is a very balanced and well thought-out elliptical trainer. It takes a bit of getting used to at first because the flywheel is in the front, but you get used to it relatively quickly.
If you use the integrated targets, you can get closer to your goals like fat burning or endurance building relatively quickly. However, the Kettler Elyx 1 is a bit more expensive. But in return you get a first-class elliptical trainer with a wide range of functions.
