Kettler Rivo M Elliptical Trainer Review: Over the past decades, Kettler has built up an excellent reputation for fitness equipment. Numerous positive evaluations by Stiftung Warentest (including the elliptical trainer test winner in issue 02/2011) confirm the quality of Kettler products.
But unfortunately Kettler quality also has its price. But with the Rivo M, Kettler offers a quite affordable elliptical trainer which convinced us in the test.
Kettler Rivo M: Affordable entry-level model
The Rivo M by Kettler is a rather simply equipped elliptical trainer. This is also noticeable in the price and so the machine only costs about under 500 dollars. So it is perfect for beginners who do not want to spend too much on a piece of exercise equipment.
The Rivo M has a small flywheel of 12 kilograms. This means that there is a risk that the concentricity is limited and that the movements are not sufficiently fluid and the training is quite difficult. The range of performance levels is also not too large, the user has only 8 difficulty levels available. These are set manually.
The Kettler Rivo M’s computer provides good support for monitoring the training. Among other things, time, distance, speed and calorie consumption are displayed. You can also set an upper pulse limit which must not be exceeded during the workout. This is useful for fat burning, for example. If you exceed the limit, the display draws your attention to it visually. However, the pulse is only measured by hand sensors, which often results in an inaccurate measurement result.
Kettler stands for quality and also knows how to convince with elliptical trainers. Stability, robustness in combination with design and technology determine the assortment.
The Kettler Rivo M elliptical trainer also tries to combine design with performance. Users can not only benefit from the 26 pound (12 Kg) flywheel or adjustable foot rests, but also from a modern training computer.
The computer shows the most important data such as time, distance, speed, cadence or pulse on a large LCD display. It also has a function for a target zone training. Athletes can enter any limit value here and then train. If this limit is exceeded, an acoustic warning signal sounds. Furthermore, the device has a recovery pulse measurement including an integrated fitness note.
- Kettler Rivo M elliptical trainer in good quality
- Robust, stable and easy to operate
- 26 lbs (12 kg) flywheel weight including magnetic brake system
- Training computer for time, distance, speed, calories and pulse
- Additionally, values can be entered manually
- Target zones Training with sensor and acoustic signal
- 8 resistance levels and adjustable treads
- Additionally there are double ball bearings and transport rollers
If you have ever assembled something from IKEA, you should be able to do the assembly in an hour. In any case, training is much more sweaty than assembling!
When the Rivo M elliptical trainer is assembled, its dimensions are 51 X 25 X 63 inches (130 x 64 x 160 cm). This is no larger or smaller than other elliptical trainers for private use.
As you might expect from a Kettler elliptical trainer, there are transport wheels and height compensation. The height compensation is especially important if you live in a house with not perfectly even floors (for example old building).
Ideal for beginners but also for advanced users who want a solid elliptical trainer and don’t attach so much importance to technology
The Rivo M’s features are quite simple compared to the competition. This should be especially useful for beginners. Or people who are not so technically adept or athletes who are satisfied with this functional range.
The Kettler Rivo M elliptical trainer makes a very good intial impression. It is available in both white and black and therefore fits perfectly into any home. However, the heart of the crosstrainer is the training computer.
Unfortunately, the low load weight of only 110 kilograms should be mentioned negatively. This is surprising since the Kettler Rivo M has a rather high dead weight (55.5 kg). Comparable devices offer a load weight of 285 pounds or 330 pounds (130 or 150 kilograms) with a lower dead weight. But be careful: The manufacturer’s specifications should not be exceeded or absolutely reliably adhered to in order to avoid wear and tear on the device as long as possible.
A comfort of use at any time
✓ Double handlebars for more precise targeting of muscle groups. You will have the choice to work your entire figure using the mobile arms, or, on the contrary, you will be able to concentrate on your lower muscles thanks to the fixed handlebars.
✓ Heart rate sensors located on the fixed handlebar grips to measure your heart rate and adapt it to your goals.
✓ Front travel wheels for easy storage and level compensators at the rear for stability and balance during exercise. No more worries about uncomfortable vibrations with every pedal stroke.
The Rivo M has a magnetic brake system, the resistance of which can be adjusted in 8 steps. It thus complies with the regulations in DIN EN 957-1/9, class HB.
The weight of the flywheel is dimensioned at 26 pounds (12 kg). This allows for a smooth and quiet workout, even with a heavier body weight and more strength in the legs. Other manufacturers are content with smaller flywheels in this price class. The Rivo M is approved by Kettler for a maximum body weight of 242 lbs (110 kg).
The length of the footrests of this Kettler model can also be easily adjusted. Simply open two turning screws – adjust – done. This means that both tall and short people can exercise in an ergonomically correct position on this elliptical trainer.
💻 Kettler Rivo M LCD Display
The pulse is measured by hand sensors, which are built into the handles on the left and right of the training computer. They are easy to reach, but of course it takes about 10 to 15 seconds until the heart rate is measured.
Since controlling your heart rate is important for an efficient training, you could get a POLAR heart rate monitor. It measures the heart rate with the help of a chest strap, so that you can keep your hands “in motion” at all times.
The training computer is very easy to use. It shows the most important measured values in a clearly arranged form on an LCD display at the same time.
- Calorie consumption
An upper limit for the pulse can be entered on the training computer. As soon as this limit is reached, a warning signal sounds and a message appears on the display. In the heat of the moment, horses can get the better of you. However, it is much more important to train for a longer time at lower intensity.
At the end of the training, the training computer gives you a fitness score. Nothing is more motivating than when it gets better and better after a few weeks.
The Rivo M elliptical trainer makes training easy. The flywheel mass and the brake system allow for smooth movements. The noise level is very low. There are no squeaking or creaking noises, which unfortunately often occur with very inexpensive machines.
The Kettler Rivo M Elliptical costs under $500. Fortunately, this recommended price is often undercut on the Internet. So you can usually buy this trainer much cheaper at Amazon and have it delivered to your home free of shipping costs.
