Crosstrainers have remained popular ever since they were first introduced in 1995. At the forefront of this development in exercise equipment was Precor. For more than 20 years the company have remained one of the leading names in the industry. That’s why, if you are looking to find a great machine to use to work out on, but not while you are at the gym either because you don’t like gyms or just have too busy a schedule, you should choose a Precor. A Precor like the Precor EFX 222 Energy Series elliptical machine.
Part of the iconic Energy series, the first thing you will notice about this is that it doesn’t look like the average at-home fitness crosstrainer. That’s because it’s not. It’s more like the kind you would find in a professional gym or fitness center. From the materials used and build quality to the features and functionality, this is a commercial-grade piece of equipment presented to residential customers just like you. What makes this stand out from an already crowded marketplace? Let’s look at some of its key features to see.
When you are buying anything, whether it’s a table, a washing machine or, in this case, a fitness machine, you always need to factor in the features. The features are what helps you differentiate between one model in a similar group of products from another. Precor are globally renowned for the features they pack into even the most budget-priced of their lines.
While the Precor EFX 222 Energy Series elliptical crosstrainer could hardly be described as budget-priced, it more than compensates for the investment with plenty of nice elements. Although it doesn’t benefit from the motorized variable CrossRamp tech other more advanced models do, you still get the manual version. Further to that, this also benefits from having movable handlebars for a workout that targets the upper body as well as the lower body. Let’s look a little deeper at some of these.
Manual 3-Position CrossRamp
Different to many of the others in the series, this does not, as noted above, feature the motorized version of the CrossRamp tech. However, even in the manual form, the option to choose three different stride heights as well as three different elevations, makes this a challenging piece of equipment to workout with.
It basically means that every day you can work out targeting a different group of muscles, for a more rounded schedule over the course of a week.
While most treadmills, exercise bikes and even many elliptical trainers target the lower half of the body mainly, the EFX 222, like many others from Precor, offers a full body workout. The handlebars can be fixed or moveable, depending on what you prefer. So, on the days when you just want to push your leg muscles, you can do that, but on those days when you want to engage your arm muscles, you also have that option.
Powerful Adjustable Resistance and Preset Workouts
The ramp elevation and stride height are not the only adjustable elements you get the benefit from with the EFX 222 elliptical crosstrainer, as it also offers you selectable workout presets and adjustable resistance.
Although there are only 10, with names like Cross Trainer, Gluteal, Aerobic and Cross Country, on those days when you don’t want to think about settings and just want a hard work out, you’ll appreciate them.
The resistance is another aspect that just adds greater versatility to the machine and what it can achieve when you use it regularly.
- Adjustable elevation and stride height
- Preset workouts and adjustable resistance
- Robust construction
- Not the cheapest model
- CrossRamp is not the motorized version

The EFX 222, as we’ve shown, as many great elements and features that make it more than worthy of the price tag. We do realize it is quite an investment.
